About the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light
Interaction of light and matter. We conduct fundamental research into all aspects of the interaction between light and matter and its applications in the “real” world. The research aims to expand the realm of what is possible in the science and technology of light.
Science beyond the limits of light. In three scientific departments and 15 research groups, scientists from over 50 nations conduct research in a broad range of research areas, including nano-optics and photonics, quantum optics and communication, nonlinear optics, photonic crystal fibers, high-resolution microscopy, biological optomechanics, machine learning and artificial intelligence.
What makes us special: at the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light, excellent minds enjoy a high degree of freedom and excellent working conditions - this is the basis for our scientific excellence at the peak of international research.
